Digital Cameras Keep Getting Cheaper And Cheaper
Batteries are the scourge of this age of gadgets, and the Powershot A570IS is one of the major offenders. This thing chews through batteries like crazy. Customers have been reporting problems with the A570IS draining batteries after taking as few as 20 pictures. Canon claims you should be able to get about 130 pictures with regular alkaline batteries. It seems pretty much impossible these days, to get a camera under $300 with a decent rechargeable battery pack. Batteries are becoming the printer cartridges of the camera world.
After the first few weeks of using it, the overall experience is good. Let me get over a few key points.
The quality of video clips is great, far better than other CyberShot models I have tested. The only drawback is that you cannot use optical zoom during the shooting, only zooming digitally will work. This types of digital cameras and this discounted slr digital cameras should help.
As with many cameras in this category, you’ll notice a degradation in your ability to take more than one picture in rapid succession with the SD750. The prime culprits here are slow SD memory cards, and weak batteries. The flash, and the now larger LCD contribute to the problem. What can help, is buying the fastest speed memory cards you can, and quality batteries.
Other consumer problems reported include. Screen is very difficult to see in daylight. Viewfinder is not always accurate. Face recognition feature is flawed and works about 20% of the time. Camera tends to take a softer (blurry?) studio portrait type image. Comes with a SD memory card, that’s too small to be practical and needs to be upgraded.
To start off, I must say that I was intrigued by some reviews I read, where people were comparing the DSCW300 against several Canon models and complaining about how colorful the ones taken with Canon were. This is true, but they were only comparing out of the box default color settings: increase the image sharpness on the Sony and you will get the same quality, if not even better. Sony supersedes Canon with the three stepped DRO (Dynamic Range Optimization): off, normal and extra, yielding a great palette of colors in both shady and well lit areas of a picture.
I also fell in love with this camera because of its size. It’s so small and light that I can carry it around in my jacket pocket without any sign of discomfort. I would also recommend getting the carrying case for DSC cameras (code LCS-TWB). Don’t worry that the camera is not in the compatibility list, it fits in like a glove.
If you need the SLR cameras with many different lenses, you might need to see which cameras have the most interchangeable lens available.
