Over the course of the past ten years, many of us have bought digital cameras that can take amazing images. In fact, there has never been a time in the history of the planet where so many people have had the opportunity to take pictures of just about everything.

Making money from your photos can be relatively easy if you have your pictures represented by a stock photography agency. They specialize in marketing images to a wide variety of companies including text book publishers, advertising agencies, calendar companies and even magazines. There are just so many companies that need quality images for their publications and your photos might be exactly what they are looking for.

You need to realize that it is quality and not quantity that will make you money. Do yourself a favor and go through your image library and get rid of the bad photos. Have a friend help you if another set of eyes would help, but make sure that you only keep the best.

Look for images that are out of focus, blurry, with poor lighting, or are not composed properly. Get rid of them immediately so you can put your best foot forward. Much like a first interview, you want to make sure that you only submit your best images, and don’t be surprised if even some of your best will be rejected.

How much you make with a stock photo agency will depend on a number of things, but usually a larger number of images that are represented by your stock agency, the better chance of you having a sale. Also, make sure that your photographs cover a wide variety of topics to ensure that your work will appeal to a larger audeince.

Most people have unreasonable expectations when it comes to the earnings that you can expect from selling photos. Many stock photographers can make some good pocket change from selling their images, but most will still have to hold down a job besides taking pictures. But if you focus on quality images, great variety, and a consistent effort, your library images can definitely put some more money in your wallet to spend on your next camera.
